A state champion is coming to Raider Nation.
Orange Park hired Marcus Wimberly as the school's next head football coach, the school announced Monday, as the Raiders aim to build a program to challenge Clay County's best.
Wimberly, 47, holds a 93-77 career record as a head coach in Tennessee, and won a championship in the Volunteer State in 2016.
He replaces Tom MacPherson, who had coached the Raiders for six years with a record of 23-36. MacPherson, who has also coached Ridgeview and Baker County, subsequently moved to the Bishop Kenny coaching staff.
Wimberly played college football at Miami, beginning as a wide receiver but converting to safety on the mid-1990s Canes teams headlined by Ray Lewis and Warren Sapp. The Atlanta Falcons selected him in the fifth round of the 1997 NFL Draft, and he played six games in the league.

Wimberly coached for 12 seasons at Memphis East High School, winning the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Class 4A championship in 2016 with a 27-3 victory over Knoxville Central.
He had an 81-57 record at Memphis East, as compiled by the Memphis Commercial Appeal, and nine playoff appearances with the Mustangs.
